BATTLE OF FRANKLIN
The battle took place in the yard and gardens of the Carter House.
There were 24 family members and female slaves in the basement during the battle.
One of the sons was killed 200 yards from their home.

This is about 1 mile from the Carter House
and sat on the west flank of the battle
it was used as a military hospital...trying to serve 900 wounded.
The Mrs. tore up every available piece of material...linens, curtains, clothing, etc.
in order to provide the doctors with dressings
**there were 44 make shift hospitals
in the town of Franklin
(population at that time 750)
9500 wounded
The battled lasted approximately 5 hours
a bloody mess
